Neuroscience Insights for Parents with Laura Lovett Feedzy

This week on Perfectly Imperfect Parenting, Mary was joined in studio by Neuroscientist Laura Lovett.

Laura originally trained as a Primary school Teacher and then went on to pursue a Masters in Applied Neuroscience at King’s College London. She is also the founder of Ireland’s first neuroscience-informed independent school which will open in September 26.

Laura spoke about how our babies’ brains develop, how our brains prepare for parenthood, and gave us a great insight into the mysterious teenage brain!

Her main message is that we have the power as educators and parents to influence the brains of the children in our care. The environment we provide throughout childhood can leave its mark, quite literally, through epigenetic markers on genes. High nurture can essentially silence or turn up the volume on certain genes, priming the brain for resilience to stress and overall mental health!
