Definitely Maybe by Oasis

today29 August 2024

It has been 30 years since the release of Oasis debut album Definitely Maybe, and as a celebration of the abrupt reunion of the Gallagher brothers, a World Tour has been announced, starting on September 2025. Alongside the big news, this debut album’s reissue will be available on 30 August 2024, and it will include new remastered tracks, with odd recordings and demos from the era. So until we get a chance to see Oasis in Dublin on 16 and 17 August 2025, let’s have a look at the album that started the legacy.

Released on 29 August 1994, Definitely Maybe saw an iconic band being born, who will later on act as co-protagonists of “The Battle of Britpop”, a harmless chart battle between two of the biggest bands of the 1990s, Oasis and Blur. Their popularity only increased within the years, leading them to hit worldwide success and transcend as one of the top rock bands of all times.

When it comes to this album, I recognise it acts as the appetiser to the main course. Even though it does contain hits such as “Rock and Roll Star” and “Live Forever”, I found the rest of the songs rather dull, when compared to the masterpiece that (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? is, only released within a year from this debut work. The sometimes cliché bubble pop songs in Definitely Maybe overlap to each other when listening to the album in full. Perhaps it was the fact that this album got shadowed by its successor, as the latter ended up being an international success and which has even been defined as a modern classic by many. And that is no wonder when up to this day, decades after Oasis peak success, new generations continue to sing along to their anthem-like hits such as “Wonderwall”, among several others.

Over three decades have passed since the album’s debut and since they used to rock up the charts. But this does not seem to matter to fans as the most of the next year’s World Tour concerts are already sold out, being this a huge historical event for many. So for those who love the music of Oasis, this is your chance! Get your a copy of this reissue here, and make sure to follow the on-going news about the Oasis reunion.

Throughout his career, Friel penned twenty-four plays which have been performed on some of the most acclaimed stages in the world, including Broadway and the West End, but one of his […]
