For over seventeen years, ‘THISISPOPBABY’ have been single-handedly redefining the Irish theatre scene with their raucous blend of pop culture, queer culture, and art.
Their shows promise an exhilarating and diverse access point into the arts and have played to a cumulative audience of over 450,000 across the globe. Speaking with Muread Hughes on Good Morning Dublin, director Philip McMahon talked about the company’s upcoming show, 0800 Cupid, which is set to premiere at the Dublin Theatre Festival this September.
Written by and starring Emer Dineen, 0800 Cupid has been described as ‘an SOS response to the swelling social anxiety of a post-pandemic pre-apocalyptic world,’ and promises to deliver a genre-defining show that effortlessly blurs the lines between reality and performance.
Hungover and disorientated, the show will unravel the true story of Emer as she navigates loss, crises, and chaotic relationships in a capitalist paradigm. Audiences will see Emer return from the existential brink in a musical march, featuring original compositions and lyrics written by Dineen.
Tickets for 0800 Cupid are available now and can be purchased from the Dublin Theatre Festival Website. For more on 0800 Cupid and ‘THISISPOPBABY’ listen to our interview with Philip McMahon on Dublin City FM!
